My name is Elizabeth, and I never imagined I would find myself in this situation. I was on a road trip, enjoying some time away, when I stopped in South Carolina to visit a friend I’ve known for over 20 years. What was supposed to be a brief, friendly visit turned into a nightmare. After a nice dinner together, my friend’s behavior changed drastically. Out of nowhere, he became angry and violent, and when we returned to his house, he locked me out. As I tried to calmly gather my things and leave, he shoved me so hard down a flight of cement stairs that my ankle snapped in several places, with the bone protruding. I was left outside, injured and in shock, trying to process what had just happened. I have never been in an abusive situation before, and I am still struggling to come to terms with it.

Now, I am facing a long road to recovery. I need two surgeries to rebuild my ankle, and I will be unable to walk or work for at least 6 to 8 weeks. I urgently need help covering my medical bills, finding a safe place to stay while I recover, and making sure I have food and care for my dog during this time. I am pressing charges against the person who did this to me, but right now, my most immediate concern is healing and staying safe.

I have never created a GoFundMe before, and it is very difficult for me to ask for help, especially financial help.
