I am the proud aunt of my only brother Eddy and his wife Linda’s two wonderful boys. Edward almost 7 years old and Elijah 2 years old. It has been such a challenging journey for this brave little boy Elijah.
A few weeks before he was due to be born the doctors found that his heart was functioning at 13%. Elijah was born with dilated cardiomyopathy. He made it through birth and was in the hospital for over two months. Miraculously at two months of age he had a heart transplant. He was blessed with this gift and chance at life because most recipients don’t live long enough to have a donor.
Since then he has been through many unpleasant diagnostic tests, treatments, treatments for auto immune deficiencies, blood transfusions and many long term medical stays at NY Presbyterian hospital. Elijah has ongoing deficiencies with hemoglobin levels, low platelet count and bone marrow issues. He becomes weak and anemic when this ongoing fluctuation.Weekly or biweekly Elijah has testing done to make sure his levels are within reason. He has had many many blood transfusions, way too many to keep track of.
My birthday is on February 7 and it is my wish that anyone who feels inclined to donate toward his medical costs that are not covered by insurance . Also, his family’s expenses and numerous travel costs to NY city ~ thank you.Any gifts would be greatly appreciated to help.
At this time Elijah‘s heart is doing well. However, the last few weeks and his hemoglobin levels are extremely low. His medical teams have been doing MRIs bone marrow and heart biopsies a spinal tap,G.I. endoscopy and other tests to find the root cause and therefore a possible treatment. We hope and pray that soon they can find a successful treatment so he can come home and be the little boy that he’s meant to be with his brother Edward. And to stay home and be with his family.
We all appreciate the love and support.
