Please can you provide any support to help diagnose my nephew Elijah Benjamin Gous. The money we raise will go towards a genetic and nerve test.
'My name is Elijah and I am about to turn 4. I live in Zimbabwe, Africa and I travel down to Pretoria, South Africa for medical treatment. When I was 2 I stopped walking, after many tests (2 MRI's, Nerve function and bloods just a few) it was discovered that I have a very rare autoimmune condition called Myasthenia Gravis. Around the time of my 3rd birthday I started having seizures, I continued to have several prolonged, grand mal seizures throughout the year 2024 and had to be rushed to hospital to stop the seizures and admitted for observation every single time. I attend the most wonderful montessori nursery and I am well loved by all my teachers! In December of 2024 I stopped walking and the usual solution of medication adjustment did not work. Apart from the seizures 2024 was a good year and with correct medication management I was able to walk, run, play and improve my fine motor skills with the help of my OT.'
After consulting with the neurologist Tracy (mum) and Gary (dad) travelled urgently to South Africa to have an MRI because his current symptoms mimic a stroke or brain tumour... The MRI was clear and the latest symptoms are pointing towards Neuropathy and further testing is needed to explore this diagnosis. He currently is curling his hands and cannot use them properly. He is struggling with laboured breathing, fluctuating saturation levels and abnormal fluctuations of his heart rate. He can walk but it is slow, unbalanced, more of a waddle and he is dragging his left foot. He gets tired easily and relies on a wheelchair heavily. He is napping during the day more than normal. He still cannot speak, though that has been consistent from the beginning.
