My partner in love and life, EJ Okojie, needs your help urgently!
EJ is an amazing father to his six-year old son, Otis, and has been denied parenting time with him for the past month due to Otis’ mother keeping him for no evident reason. EJ has always had Otis for half the week, every single week for the past three years since their split. Out of nowhere, things changed, and it has been devastating for both EJ and Otis, especially being away from his father during the week of Christmas. As of this posting on January 4th, our entire extended family has our Christmas presents waiting to be opened together. We’ve made the commitment to Otis that he will be able to celebrate Christmas cookies, carols, and gifts whenever we are able to have him with us (whenever that is).
We have been filing every court motion we can and attempting to mediate with Otis’ mom, but with no success yet. We have already spent over $1000 in court and attorney fees, but we need to retain a lawyer to get Otis back safely, and that costs at least $4000. Plus, there will be more court, mediation, child advocate, and potentially, Child Family Investigator fees, which we don’t have on hand either.
Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated!
We are highly aware that EJ is a Black man navigating an often unequal justice system against a white counterpart. Racial discrimination makes this case even more precarious and crucial, so reuniting Otis (who is a young Black boy) with his Black father is of utmost importance. EJ is the most caring, emotionally intelligent, and empowering dad I know-- please help him and Otis be together again!
We are incredibly grateful for any and all assistance you can share!
In faith and solidarity,
Katherine & EJ
