Ed is my mom’s companion and a veteran who has become like family to us. He’s 83 years old and has faced more hardship in the past few years than most people do in a lifetime. Three years ago, Ed lived in a trailer that developed severe mold, making him very sick and causing lasting lung issues. The trailer had to be demolished, and Ed moved in with my mom in June 2025. They were wonderful for each other, helping each other through the loss of their spouses and finding comfort in their companionship.

During this time, Ed found someone who claimed to be a contractor to help him buy a trailer and get it installed on a lot he owned in a mobile home park. Sadly, this person turned out to be a professional scammer and stole Ed’s life savings. Despite this setback, Ed and my mom were happy together and had many plans for the future. But only six months later, my mom passed away, leaving Ed alone again. I investigated the scammer and had him arrested, but Ed was left penniless. We let him stay in my mom’s home, as he had nowhere else to go and no family. We have grown to love him like family and have done all we can to help him.

Recently, the HOA informed me that Ed had to move out because the covenants require the deeded owner to live there. They threatened to sue me, and I cannot afford to fight it. Ed used his last bit of money to buy a used fifth wheel camper, but since it was put on the lot, it has been nothing but problems. The AC stopped working, there was a huge leak that destroyed the slide out, and there’s no power to one side of the camper. It’s just not livable or safe. We are grateful to have found a trustworthy RV technician—the son of a friend I have known since 5th grade—who is willing to help Ed fix these issues. He is generously donating all his labor for free and will only charge for parts and to pay his helper.

Ed is such a gentle, deserving man who served our country selflessly, and now he needs us to help serve him. We need support from the community to make his home safe.

Your generosity will help Ed rebuild his life, give him the security he deserves, and allow him to live safely, healthily, and independently on his fixed income. Please consider supporting Ed—every donation will make a real difference in his life.
