For years now, the "Bird Bus" has been a familiar sight for the residents of Little Compton. Sasha, the 8-year-old rescue parrot and Casey Jones, her 34-year-old companion are pretty famous around town and even have fans as far away as Naples, Florida.

 

Ed is their human and he has been living in the "Bird Bus" for nearly a decade now. You see, Ed suffers from a neurological condition that makes it hard for him to hold down a regular job, which has forced him to rely on intermittent work that he does for friends around town. He also needs to be able to lie down when his condition requires him to, which makes it difficult to live in a more stationary residence.

 

 

 

The bus has served him well, although the winter is hard on both him and the birds. He has to rely on a propane heating system, which produces a lot of moisture inside the bus, oftentimes creating ice on the inside of the windshield.

 

 

 

The bus is on its final legs, maybe offering Ed and the birds another month or so of shelter.

He has found another bus that he would like to purchase, but he needs the means to do so, as well as the additional costs of fitting it out for a more comfortable existence for him and his feathered companions. This would include a wood burning system that would warm the bus more efficiently and with less moisture, making it more comfortable during the winter.

 

Ed appreciates any contribution you can give towards securing this new bus. For him, it is a question of survival, not only for himself, but the birds as well. Like he says, "as long as the birds are OK, I'm OK."
