My name is Ebony, and I’m a mother doing my best to hold things together for my three children—Fabian, Azaria, and Deyon. We lived in Blue Springs from April 2023 until recently, when our lives were turned upside down and we had to move to Independence due to our landlord’s negligence. The sudden move was traumatic and financially devastating. I’m off work during the summer, so the money I had set aside to keep up with bills had to be used for this emergency just to find a safe place for us to stay. That one emergency set off a chain reaction: I fell behind on my car payments, and even though my lawyer reached out to the lender to request a temporary forbearance, my car was repossessed just yesterday.


Losing our car has made everything harder. I work as a registered behavior technician in a local school district, supporting children every day. Without a vehicle, I can’t get to work, and my kids are worried about how they’ll get to school, sports, and see their friends. The stress of changing schools and losing our home has already been a lot for them, and now this setback is weighing on all of us.


I’m asking for help to cover the costs needed to get our car back and restore some stability for my family.
