Help Dwayne Secure Stable Housing
Donation protected
Hello, everyone. I’m calling on the community to help support and uplift a fellow member in a time of desperate need. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read this and consider helping out.
My name is Dan and I’m asking from the bottom of my heart to anyone who is able to help out my friend and brother, Dwayne. He has had an unstable housing situation for the past 5+ years. Due to no fault of his own, Dwayne has found himself unable to secure stable housing or consistent income. I have given all I can and am sincerely asking for any donations you are able to give. I understand times are hard all around, as I myself struggle financially, but it takes a village and Dwayne and I need the village.
Dwayne is someone who has worked hard his whole life and has raised two amazing daughters. They now have children of their own and he is a loving grandfather to his 8 grandkids. Dwayne loves his family more than anything and his grandchildren are his life.
Around 2018, Dwayne started experiencing severe back and neck pain while working as a dishwasher for a local restaurant. While riding the bus to and from work, the pain came to a peak when he started suddenly losing mobility in his legs. Seemingly out of nowhere, his legs would give out on him whether he was in the middle of the street or getting on or off the bus, and he would struggle to be able to get himself up. Soon he found himself unable to work.
We began going to many doctors and specialists, up to 3 times a week, to see why this was happening. During this time, he was unable to work and keep the room he was renting. I decided, due to having an extra room, to give him a place to live while we figured out what was going on with his health. After 9 long months of doctor visit after doctor visit, and MRI after MRI, they finally came to the conclusion that Dwayne had a herniated disc pinching his spinal cord in his neck and upper back. This is what was causing him to lose mobility in his legs. Through all the appointments, poking, prodding, and 9 months of waiting they finally concluded this was an emergency. He either had to be rushed into surgery or risk becoming permanently paralyzed. The surgery was “successful” to some degree, where he gained most of the mobility back in his legs. However, he was left with potentially permanent nerve damage because of the length of time he was dealing with this injury.
Throughout this time, Dwayne had filed for disability to try and get resources to be able to support himself in his healing process. Unfortunately, the case is still ongoing for multiple years with no conclusion.
Any amount, small or big, will help tremendously towards Dwayne renting a temporary room until he’s approved for secure housing. Thank you again for taking the time to read this. It’s important as community members that we look out for each other in a time of need, as this could be any one of us. So much gratitude to anyone who is able to contribute. Many blessings to you all.
