Help Dr. Miguel’s Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
We have just learned the news that Miguel has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Miguel is a devoted father & stepfather of 6 children and an amazing husband to my cousin Jennifer. This resilient family has faced adversity head-on enduring previous battles with unimaginable strength and now they are about to begin another battle.
Their journey through hardship began with their daughter, Kaidence. Many of you might remember her brave story, but Kaidence was the daughter of Jennifer and Miguel. Kaidence was diagnosed with Lissencephaly when she was born. Lissencephaly is a rare, gene-linked brain malformation characterized by the absence of convolutions (folds) in the cerebral cortex and an extremely small head (microcephaly). The word lissencephaly literally means "smooth brain. Doctors told the family that Kaidence probably wouldn’t make it to see her first birthday. Driven by love, Miguel and his family fought tirelessly to extend her time on Earth as long as they possibly could. Through Chiropractic care, they were able to help Kaidence find comfort when medicine often times could not. Kaidence blessed our family and community for 4 precious years.
The Merida family knew that Kaidence’s story needed to be shared and that they too could help other families with children who require special care. Miguel went back to school and become the incredible chiropractic doctor he is today. Every day Miguel is helping families in need and has created a lasting legacy of his daughter through his work.
Just when the family thought their hard times were behind them, Miguel’s father in law, Bob Gerber, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The Merida family once again had to put their needs to the side and care for Bob as he endured the horrific disease. The challenges they faced moving him from different facilities to find the right support to care for his diminishing health took a toll on their family. After fighting and making sure Bob was comfortable through the long battle of Alzheimer’s, he passed away April of this year.
Always fighting and helping his family, Miguel was ignoring pain he was experiencing himself. Finally having time to spare for himself, he went to get checked out expecting to walk away with some minor information from the doctor. Unfortunately, it was not the news anyone was expecting. Miguel was told the cancer is at stage 3 and has spread to his lymph nodes, demanding immediate action. The journey ahead is not going to be easy and this family needs help. Dr. Miguel, known for helping to heal others, will now need to take some time and focus on healing himself.
To support the Merida family, I’m launching this GoFundMe. Dr. Miguel is stepping away from the practice of Lux Life Chiropractic to focus on himself and his family. They need our help, just as the Merida family has helped the community. They are part of the Cary Soccer Association dedicating their time to coaching multiple teams. Inviting people into their home to help with adjustments daily. To the work they are doing with assisting parents in need going through a divorce and helping to ease that process. The Merida family is there for the community and we need to be there for them with what is to come next. This family has gone through hell and back multiple times, they are no stranger to fighting back with everything they got. The Merida family have endured a lot, so let’s ensure that they feel the community rallying behind them, making this battle more manageable. I did talk with Jen and Miguel already and have received their blessing on putting together this fundraiser for them. Any amount can help and is truly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. I’m hoping we can help remove some of the stress that comes with medical expenses, treatments, and other basic expenses to help out Miguel and his family. If any amount is not used by the family, it will be donated to a foundation for kids, chiropractic or cancer research.
