Help Douglas Coulter's Family Rebuild After Asheville Flood
Donation protected
On September 26th this families worst nightmare began. A storm prior to hurricane Helene caused their neighborhood to begin flooding and left them no time to escape. By some miracle several hours after the floods began there was a break and the water receded just enough for the family to attempt to evacuate the neighborhood. With precious little time they grabbed what few essentials they could, packed the car and made a break for it. Fortunately they were able to get out when they did because that evening the water started to rise again. In the wee hours of the morning of September 27 hurricane Helene slammed into western North Carolina. While Doug, Hailey and their two children under the age of 5 were sleeping at a safer location, their entire lives were being swept away down the Swannanoa River. I love this family with all of my heart and while I am beyond grateful that they escaped with their lives, I am absolutely heartbroken at the loss and devastation they have faced. When Doug was able to return home to check on things, there was nothing left. The entire home, along with everything they owned, was claimed by the river. They are faced with the daunting task of finding a new home in a disaster ravaged community already short on housing, as well as starting from scratch while also preparing to bring their third baby into the world this spring. Their children lost all of their clothing and toys. Hailey lost her precious books and materials she has painstakingly collected for her journey as a midwifery student. Doug lost a lifetime of art. It will take them years to recover from the emotional trauma and devastation of this earth shattering event.
Any amount you can spare for this beautiful little family is one step closer to them rebuilding and recovering from this disaster.
