I am 58 years old and have never owned a home. After being married for 29 years, I lost my husband to cancer and have been a widow for over nine years. Throughout my life, I have carried the burden of a Parent Plus loan that has made it difficult to achieve my dream. While I was working and searching for a house, I was injured at work when an elevator hit my knee. This injury forced me to resign from my job and put my dream of homeownership on hold, as I was unable to continue the process.

My hope has always been to buy a house for my children, but now that they are grown and I have grandchildren, I want to create a place where they can visit their grandmother—a home, not just an apartment. Owning a home would mean so much more than just having a roof over my head. It would be a legacy I could pass down, a place for family gatherings, and a space to invite friends without worrying about landlords or neighbors. Being free from debt would allow me to focus on what matters most: my family. My children and grandchildren would be proud of me, and I would be their example of hope and perseverance.

If I am fortunate enough to receive support from donors, I will always remember the help I received every time I walk into my home. I plan to display a quote or frame to remind me of the empathy and generosity that made my dream possible. I hope to meet all my donors one day and thank them for helping me achieve the American dream I have chased for so long.
