Help Dorell Family

Donation protected
Oren Dorell, a foreign affairs reporter for USA TODAY, was killed June 8th, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Oren was on his way home from work when he was hit by a suspected impaired driver, who then fled the scene. Oren  died that evening in a DC hospital.

Oren left behind his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Knapp Dorell, and two sons: Malcolm, 13, and Leo, 11.

Oren, who was 53 at the time of his death, was a wonderful husband and father. He loved spending time with his wife and two sons and took them backpacking, diving and hiking, sharing with them his adventurous spirit.

Oren was compassionate, thoughtful and generous. As a foreign affairs reporter, Oren never hesitated to travel to conflict zones and report on the suffering of others.

He was a true friend.

When a father is taken so suddenly, it leaves a big hole in a child’s heart and so many unanswered questions in their minds. There were so many things Oren wanted to do for his children. We would like to complete some of those things if at all possible. The biggest thing we would like to take care of, is starting a college fund. We would like to put this in a trust for them to have after they graduate high school.

In lieu of flowers and gifts please consider giving to this fund to support and honor his wishes.

We thank you.
