Don Shepard was in a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in immediate brain surgery. The initial MRI showed grade 3 DAI brain damage, but we were still praying and hoping for a recovery.
The second MRI showed that Don had two strokes while he was in a coma. It severely damaged his brain stem and the visual lobe.
He also failed the nerve tests, showing no connection between his body and his brain.
Don was a great father, brother, son, friend, and veteran. He worked hard and had a 25 year career at the U.S. Post Office. He was the life of the party and had many friends and loved ones.
His four children, other family members, and friends have been by his side since the accident in the early morning on August 30th. They now have to make the difficult decision to let go and let him pass away.
The two youngest children are 18 and 21. They were still living with their dad as one just graduated from high school and the other is a full-time college student.
We would love to see the two youngest stay in their father's home if possible. They have all been on unpaid leave during this tragedy.
We are asking you to consider helping the kids with funeral costs as they give their father a proper burial. They also will need help with the cost of living and utilities and maintenance of their home.
This fund will go directly toward supporting Kayla, Hanna, Cadence, and Carson with whatever they may need. It will also help cover costs for funeral arrangements for Don. Every contribution, no matter the size, eases some of the weight these children are carrying.
We know that not everyone is able to give financially. Please know that your thoughts and prayers are just as meaningful to us.
Don leaves behind a legacy of community, family, and love. That legacy will live on through Kayla, Hanna, Cadence and Carson who carry forward the very best parts of who their father was.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers and for showing up for these kids in the same way that Don always showed up for others.
