Many know and love Mrs. Mina and Donald Bridges (DB) as some call him! Especially the ones he worked with for 45 years for the Sabine Sheriff's Office!
In December 2021, Don was diagnosed with cancer (Angiosarcoma). He fought hard for months and was finally in remission with no active cancer. Two months later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Then, a short time after, he developed a tumor around his eye. The cancer had come back and was much more aggressive this time.
Since then, he has lost his vision and most of his hearing. At this time, he is still able to talk but is hard to understand. Tuesday, he had an appointment for chemo and started feeling bad. Shortly after, he let Grandma (Mina) know he felt bad and then went unconscious and started seizing. He was out for a total of 15 minutes. He was taken by ambulance to another hospital nearby and admitted. Yesterday, he was talking, conversing with us. He knew we were there and who we were. Today, he didn’t know who was there and isn’t conversing with anyone. He’s become very aggressive today, so he is currently restrained to his bed.
They are on a fixed income, and Grandma (Mina) cleans her church for a little extra income, but that gives them just enough to get by. Even with Medicare, they only cover so much of his medicine. They are still having to spend over $100 just to get his medicine filled. We aren’t sure how long his hospital stay will be or when he will get to come home, and that means Grandma not getting to work her little side jobs. We help her where we can, but with Don's state right now, Grandma isn’t going to be able to care for him alone. Don has become more agitated and aggressive and can easily overpower Grandma (Mina).
We are looking into a home sitter for when he returns home because we refuse to put him in the nursing home. If you can’t donate anything, please just say a simple prayer for Don and Grandma ❤️
