I am a photojouornalist. Last year I went to Uganda to document the work of a Yale professor who for 20 years had been searching for the cause of infant infections hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and spina bifida (a birth defect where the spinal cord doesn't close during pregnancy). He has been taking his findings and working with the local communities in Jinja (the region of Africa where these kinds of infections are greatest) to prevent the causes of these infections and build a team of Village Health Workers whose job will be part prenatal care and part medical ambassador to the villagers who are skeptical of modern medicine.
I published the first part of this story last year during my first: https://friedmanarchives.blogspot.com/2025/01/saving-lives-in-uganda.html
I now have an opportunity to return to Uganda and go to the villages where this work is being performed, and document the impact this professor's work has had.
I am seeking $3K to cover my travel expenses for the next trip.
Please help me to bring this important story to light. In the age of reduced foreign aid from the United States, the story of a person who has dedicated his life to uncovering a medical mystery in this poor region needs to be told, and the impact his work is having needs to be documented.
*** UPDATE ***
Thanks to the generosity of my readers, I've hit my fundraising goal. I will donate any excess to a charity in Uganda who is doing similar outreach to AIDS victims in the villages.
