During middle school, the COVID pandemic forced me to be separate from my friends as school turned into zoom and paused many of my other extracurricular activities, such as indoor volleyball, which I relied to be able to fun and socialize with kids my own age. I was introduced to Culture Club by one of its founding members who helped me and many other kids participate in beach activities such as surfing, swimming, and beach volleyball to have a fun outdoor outlet to connect with other kids struggling during the pandemic. Being part of Culture Club not only helped me find joy again, but it also showed me the incredible impact of bringing people together and supporting one another.

Even post-pandemic, many kids don’t have access to safe and fun activities in which they can have unique experiences and connect with other kids, especially now with the community wide devastation caused by the LA fires. As our neighbors and friends have lost their homes, schools, towns, and livelihoods, we are trying to help the kids from those destroyed communities participate in activities that will help them stay positive and focused on rebuilding their lives while learning new skills and meeting new friends.

Over the years, I have worked with Culture Club and fundraised for this wonderful organization that helps to bring kids to Bruce's Beach to participate in a range of activities involving the beach, from surfing to volleyball and yoga! The mental health of children who have lost their homes is especially important at this difficult time. These activities help with positivity, focus, energy, and purpose. Together we can make a difference for these displaced children and spread the love we ourselves are so fortunate to have. All funds raised go directly to Culture Club to set up the activity camps, feed the campers, and provide clothing to any child. Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for that one person. Be the reason a child smiles today. However small, every donation counts!
