These are six trans people (including myself) seeking to flee Georgia (or Florida, for one person) to Mass in the wake of Trump's election and rising transphobic prejudice in the South. In these states we have next to zero protection against the current transphobic culture and legislation: Georgia and Florida have recently seen an alarming escalation of anti-trans legislation, transphobic rhetoric, including bans on gender-affirming care, restrictions on public expression, and threats of criminalization. These policies make it nearly impossible for us to live safely and authentically. Massachusetts offers stronger legal protections and access to healthcare for trans people, as well as a supportive and affirming community. Moving here gives us a real chance at safety, stability, and a future where we can thrive. The six of us have decided it is preferable to risk our financial stability and support network to live in a place that will support who we are and help us to live our best and most authentic life.
Here are some bits and pieces about each of the other 5
One is a sex worker, facing homelessness and gives the best hugs
One is an artist and author and is really good at writing cozy Studio Ghibli style stuff
One grew up in a cult and is really excited to live somewhere they can be themselves
One is super sweet and is always taking care of us, they love Helldivers 2
One grew up in an abusive home and is also really excited to live somewhere safe
Some of the people here want to avoid disclosing too much information in fear of being outed, but I will disclose my own identity in the interest of transparency. I am Ryan Sophia McCall and I am a trans community organizer and scientist/philosopher. Rose is my romantic partner, and the other four are friends of mine, each of the six of us has our own financial struggles to deal with, with some of us already in Massachusetts and struggling to achieve financial stability, while others are facing homelessness in Georgia.
Funds provided will be distributed based on need, with a focus on those of us who are in the most dire straits such as facing homelessness. We have all forgone the use of moving trucks, so the funds will primarily be used for basic supplies, legal document changes, emergency medical expenses, and housing costs.
As a stretch goal, I would love to involve other trans people looking for assistance. If you would like to be involved please contact me here or on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/scudubydubop.bsky.social
