Hello, my name is Dionne Edmond-Dunn. I am reaching out during one of the most difficult moments of my life. As many of you know, a devastating hurricane recently struck the country of Jamaica, leaving widespread destruction in its path.
Just two days before the hurricane, my 80-year-old father suffered a stroke. His neighbor—who has been nothing short of an angel—rushed him to St. Ann’s Bay Hospital for emergency care. Being in the United States and his only child, I was unable to be there physically, and I am currently unable to financially support him to the extent that the situation now requires.
Although my father received good medical care, he has limited function on his left side as a result of the stroke and will require continued assistance. Additionally, he now has nowhere to go home to.
His entire home was completely destroyed during the hurricane—washed away until nothing remains but the concrete slab where it once stood. He has no clothes, no belongings, and no place to return to.
His neighbor, who has been faithfully caring for him despite her own challenges, also lost her home in the storm. Both of them are displaced and trying to figure out their next steps.
