My husband and I have known DeWayne and Wendy for nearly nine years, and I can honestly say you couldn't find a kinder couple. About three years ago, Wendy's parents were brutally murdered while she and DeWayne were out of town. They returned home in the early hours to find their door open and both of her parents gone. DeWayne was the one who found them. It’s hard to imagine anyone having to live through such a tragedy. The aftermath was incredibly difficult, but having each other made all the difference for them.

After some time, they decided it was best to move to a new home, as their old house held too many painful memories. They found a lovely little place and bought it, excited to make it their forever home. DeWayne, a carpenter by trade, and Wendy, who also worked in the trades, were eager to build a cozy nest for their retirement. But just as they had stripped the house down to the studs, DeWayne became seriously ill. Now, and for the foreseeable future, he is unable to work on their home. This has left them living in a house with no insulation or drywall, just bare plywood floors. With winter nights dropping into the 20s, their living conditions are extremely uncomfortable—especially while dealing with a serious medical condition.

I have managed to find four generous gentlemen willing to donate their time and expertise to finish the house, but they cannot cover the cost of materials. Every dollar raised will go directly to purchasing what’s needed to make DeWayne and Wendy’s home safe and comfortable. I consider them close friends, and it would mean the world to me if those who are able could help by donating. They are truly deserving people, and I believe that this support will help DeWayne find the strength to face the months ahead and heal. Watching Wendy try to stay strong for her husband is heartbreaking, and seeing them live in these conditions is so hard. Any and all help would be deeply appreciated.
