Hey my name is Devonte. On YouTube I call myself DokuDee. I am small content creator/artist who makes videos about things I'm particularly passionate about. Just before writing this, I was having a conversation with my father, about how he is finally going to quit using crack cocaine, stop purchasing sex from prostitutes and bringing them and their affiliations back to the home he and I pay rent and bills for and lay our heads down with the expectation of safety and cleanliness- at least that was my expectation and not so much his, and also how he's gonna "show us all" (my family) because we made him "angry" and how he's disappointed in me for taking their side. To be clear, my family's side is the side that is trying to get him help and stop enabling his addiction. He, I, and my elderly dog Peaches live in this house together. My name and his name are on the lease since this last march going onto next march but at this point, I want to break the lease all together, take my dog, myself and find somewhere I can live alone, cleanly, and peacefully so I can focus on what's important to me, and continue living my life.
I need to leave because my father is addicted to crack cocaine, addicted to prostitutes, both of which he cannot really afford, gets reprimanded by my family, gets upset and then gives me sob story after sob story, swears he will stop this time, gets angry if you don't immediately believe him, and then rinse repeat. All of which is violently affecting my mental state and leaving us in a constant state of needing because his money is spent on that dumb, disgusting garbage and mine is spent picking up the pieces and trying to make something out of this trash ass house. Living with my father and splitting the bills was supposed to be a opportunity for me to save money and buy myself a car as well as bond with my father who I had not lived with in over a decade. I am 23 years old at this time, my 20- 22 was spent trying to care for my mom who has very bad rheumatoid arthritis and could not physically work. For 2 and a half years I struggled to pay all the bills + the rent constantly until ultimately, we had to leave the apartment, it was at that time my father who had been extremely scarcely present in my life financially or emotionally after I got into 6th grade (11 years old) had offered for me to live with him whilst my mom would go under the care of my older sister.
My father and I found a home we could quickly move into and rent. It wasn't even the full first night into the new place before I learned of his addictions and he exposed me to them directly. Smoke in the house, a loud woman of the night or from some street corner looking for someplace warm and free food searching for loose things around the house to steal from me, and crack pipes- all in the same house I found myself now stuck with. Ever since March, he has been on and off engaging with this, only weening away from crack cocaine and prostitutes when he absolutely cannot afford them, promising me he will stop, lying to me, using the gas I put in his car we both use to go out and find his vices, blowing hundreds of dollars on them and missing his half of the rent only to have to pull from his social security to pay his part, the same social security that's supposed to be being saved up by my family for trips for him and his eventual burial.
So that is my story, I do not feel safe living in here with my father not only because of the people he has brought here, the substances he has brought here, but also because he has expressed wants of murdering prostitutes, he has expressed anger towards myself and his family he has said things like "be careful what your asking for, when i get out (get out of rehab which he refuses to go to in the first place) Ima be a whole different person" which im still not entirely sure if that was a threat or not, and he overall does not have a grip on reality or his emotions and he refuses constantly to get help, and asking him is like poking a ticking bomb. He is a veteran who goes back and forth from the VA constantly and has been held by them before for the same reasons, he has access to help and refuses to use it.
My family circle is extremely small, a lot of my family does not talk to each other so I don't have many support systems a more fortunate family circle may have, and the ones I do have like my connection to my mom and my sister- have to survive themselves and are limited to what they can provide especially my mom whom is completely out of commission due to a recent surgery and her condition.
I have just started a new job which I intend to keep, but i am not sitting on any savings and I want to get out of here before things get any worse and I find myself physically fighting my father, some random person he may bring here or otherwise.
I have run out of options so I'm asking anyone who can donate for help if you can spare it. The money raised will be used to pay fees for an apartment application, pay first month's rent, and whatever deposit required, rent a moving truck, get my things, my dog, and leave and whatever is left will headstart me on my way to buy a used car.
UPDATE- 9/12/2026 -
My father was finally convinced to go into rehab so i used his car to take him to the emergency room at the VA so he could then be put into rehab however after 3 days he returned home because they did not have space in the domiciliary. He is taking classes to stay clean; this is not his first time going through this process. I don't trust that what has happened will never happen again, so I still need to be prepared to leave. My goal now is geared towards buying myself a car. Right now, his car is my only means of transportation. If I end up having to leave its very likely I won't have a car when all is said and done, and not having car makes leaving harder especially since he's home. Im trying to stick it out until the end of the lease as to not incur any penalties and debt. So right now, I'm raising funds to be able to buy a 2500- 3000 dollar used Car so I have more independence and a way out of this situation when the time comes.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, even if you can't donate a share is appreciated.
