We are Devin and Cat Rose Reynolds-Reinhart, married man and transfemme enby. We are seeking help to flee the United States and resettle in Canada.
The US has become more and more hostile to the LGBT community, especially the trans community. Hate crimes against the community has spiked since the beginning of Trump's second term, which has also seen a record number of anti-LGBT bills introduced in states across the United States. Even sanctuary states have seen themselves targeted by the federal government, leaving us with no real place to feel safe.
We are both estranged from our conservative families, who have chosen not to support our identities or lifestyles, leaving us with a much smaller support network.
We have a plan to get out of the US, but money remains the biggest obstacle. Devin is a dual citizen through his Canadian mother, and plans to sponsor Cat Rose to get her on the path to Permanent Resident. The intended place of resettlement is British Columbia, where we already have friends living, as well as a location that Devin can easily transfer to for his job.
Despite having a plan, the process is extremely expensive. Transport costs alone are staggering, as Devin and Cat Rose will have to drive from Iowa and New Jersey respectively, to British Columbia on the West Coast. Devin also expects to need financial support for keeping an apartment while he waits for Cat Rose to obtain a work permit.
If we don't reach our goal, we would like to use some of the donations to move Cat Rose to Iowa, and save the remainder until we've saved enough money to move to Canada.
Expected costs ($10,000):
Transport for us, our belongings, and pets to Canada (including rental moving van and over 5,000 miles of driving between us): $3,270
