Help Derick recover from a life changing scam.

Hey everyone I’m John Snyder, I’m starting a go fund me to try and help fix a situation that fell into my dads (Derick Snyder) lap unexpectedly. On December 3rd my dad was trying to sell a vending machine owned by the employees on marketplace. The funds for this we’re going towards a savings so he can move back to New York and be with both his kids again. Additionally the sale of the vending machine was going to be split with his only coworker who has recently became homeless due to unforeseen and personal circumstances. He was able to initiate a sale and after an couple weeks of negotiation he offered more than he expected to get, with hopes to help himself and his coworker he jumped on the opportunity and tried to sell the machine. On December 19th he received a cashiers check for the sale of the machine he deposited it and was excited to help his coworker and further his goal. On December 20th things took a change for the worse. The seller asked my dad to cash app him the amount of the cashiers check as he was no longer interested in purchasing the machine. My dad was bummed but obliged and sent back the full amount to the seller, via cash app. What he didn’t know was the seller had already cancelled the cashiers check and the bank failed to realize this and deposited the check anyways. This resulted in him losing the amount of the cashiers check twice. It was a unfortunate surprise as on Christmas Eve he went to check his bank as he wanted to send me a Christmas gift and only then did he realize what happened. Everything in his checking account was gone, as well as his savings, and resulted in his account being approximately $4,500 in the negative. He went through all the process of filing claims with cash app, and the Virginia police. Both stated they couldn’t do anything. The police department turned him to the FBI due to the quantity of money that was involved. Apon filling out forms and documentation he was able to speak with someone from the FBI who had absolutely no good news to share. The agent stated that the likelihood of them recovering the money is extremely unlikely, and if they can manage to recover the money it could be multiple years before he sees anything back. Finally today 12/26/24 he was able to go to the bank as they were closed since he found out due to the holidays. He let them know the situation and brought them printed out documents of physical proof of him being scammed out of everything he had and more, and opposed to helping they told him he had 60 days to pay back the approximately $4,500 account deficit or his account would go into collections. Not only would this be an issue monetarily as he can’t come up with that sum of money in that short of a time but, it would also damage his credit crucially and prevent him from opening and future bank accounts. This obviously crushed his goal from the last few years that he was working towards which was to move back to Buffalo next summer so he could build a life here and have the ability to be with both of his kids consistently. Between his goal being crushed and having to give the bad news to his coworker that he was no longer in the position to help him with his situation he’s been in a very depressed state as he thinks there’s no longer hope for him to fix his situation and reach his goal. I spoke to him earlier and told him I would set up a GoFundMe to try to help him as much as possible, as I don’t have the means to do it myself. His only response to me was “I just want to see both of my kids again”. I know the situation is hectic but if anyone has the ability to help or know someone who does, any and all help is appreciated. If you can’t make a donation please share the link to others and on social media. I’ve been looking forward to my dad moving back and being able to build a stronger relationship with him for a couple years now. He was making significant progress monetarily and was really excited as he was ahead on his plan to move back. With everything stripped from him and then some, I’m here to ask friends, family and others to help him get back on track and give him a light at the end of the tunnel to see. Thank you everyone, - John
