Hey there, my name is Denaja. I am a first-generation, pre-law, political science major with a minor in business administration at UT Arlington.

I was raised by a loving and resilient mother whose strength and sacrifices have been one of my greatest inspirations. Although her journey didn’t include the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree, she instilled in me the values of hard work, faith, and perseverance. Because of her example, I carry a deep desire to create opportunities, break barriers, and make a meaningful impact in my community.

Through determination in the face of financial challenges, I remained committed to academic excellence and earned a full financial aid package to attend university. My journey reflects not only my dedication, but the foundation she poured into me.

I have consistently sought out leadership opportunities on campus, and impactful roles. To gain firsthand experience in public service and policy, I chose to intern at the district level even though the position was unpaid. This experience allowed me to learn directly from local leaders, better understand the challenges facing our communities, and deepen my commitment to advocacy and representation.

Now, I have been offered a congressional internship in Washington, D.C. - the heart of American democracy. This opportunity will allow me to work alongside lawmakers, contribute to meaningful policy discussions, and develop the skills necessary to become an effective advocate for underrepresented communities.

However, the cost of housing and transportation in D.C. is beyond what I can manage alone. While the internship generously covers meals and some daily expenses, I am seeking support to secure safe housing and reliable transportation so I can fully participate in this transformative experience.
