Discovery Early Learning Center (DELC - pronounced “del-see") is a preschool-only campus that serves the youngest learners of the Yakima School District.
Having all early learners at the same campus has been a work in progress for the last two school years, finally having all classrooms together for the 24-25 school year. DELC serves over 300 students ages 3-5 in 15 different classrooms. Almost all of these students are considered at-risk in some capacity, whether that be poverty, foster care, homelessness, or developmental delays. Preschool gives them early intervention to help provide better educational and health outcomes as they grow.
Several passionate parents came together this fall with the mission of starting a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to support and encourage the students and educators at DELC. While they do not lack enthusiasm or dedication, the executive board of the PTO is in need of some capital to get things up and running. While generally self-sustaining once operational, there is a lot that goes into the initial start-up, which includes the costs to apply for an EIN, to file as tax-exempt, and for a 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
The DELC PTO has some great ideas to start raising funds but needs these things in place before doing that. A school BINGO night was planned for late May but had to be canceled due to not being operational for at least a year. The PTO has committed to providing a field day for students on the last day of school but will need funds to be able to provide the necessary supplies to make such an event a success.
Please consider donating to help our DELC PTO provide field day and get officially up and running as a non-profit. The PTO executive board and the students and staff at DELC thank you in advance for your support!
