This year, I’m hoping to celebrate a very special birthday for my two children, Declan and Halo. Declan is turning 6 and Halo is reaching her first birthday, and they share the same birthday. Declan is autistic and absolutely loves dinosaurs, while Halo, still a baby, is drawn to cows and Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Every year, I’ve tried to make their day memorable with small parties, cakes, and gifts, but the past two years have been especially hard.
In 2024, I fell on financial hardship and wasn’t able to continue our birthday traditions. Now, in 2025, I’ve been put on a leave of absence from my job for medical reasons, making it even harder to provide for Declan and Halo. I’m planning a small party with two cakes, cupcakes, drinks, and a smash cake, but what matters most to me is being able to give them presents from mom. The thought of not being able to afford even a simple gift for their birthday is heartbreaking, especially when I’m struggling to cover basic bills.
I’m reaching out for support so I can give Declan and Halo a birthday they’ll remember, even if it’s just a small celebration.
