My name is Debbie, and I’m raising funds to pursue my dream of studying Law at the University of Buckingham. Getting accepted into this program is one of the greatest achievements of my life, but the financial barrier standing in front of me is something I cannot cross alone.
I was raised in Arusha, Tanzania, by a single mother who, despite her best efforts, has been unable to secure consistent employment since 2020 due to the economic impact of COVID-19 in our country. Despite everything she has faced, she has always stood firmly beside me, doing everything she could to give me a chance at a better life. Her strength is what pushed me to aim higher, even when life made it difficult to believe my goals were possible.
Growing up, I saw firsthand how many people in my community suffered simply because they had no one to advocate for them — people facing injustice, poverty, and systemic challenges with no legal support or voice. That reality shaped me. It taught me that the law is not just a career; it is a tool to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
If I complete this degree, I will be the first in my community to achieve something like this. I want to use my education to return home and advocate for the people of Tanzania who, like me, grew up with limited opportunities and often nowhere to turn. My dream is to become the voice for the misfortunate, the overlooked, and the unheard — and to show the younger generation that their dreams are valid, no matter where they come from.
The amount I’m raising — £5,000 — is specifically for my registration fee and my first semester tuition. After this payment, I will be using the student loan I have applied for to cover the remaining costs of the degree. This first hurdle is the only thing keeping me from starting. I want to show how planned, realistic, and dedicated I am to making this work. I simply need help taking this first step.
Any support — no matter how small — brings me closer to walking into a classroom I never imagined I’d reach, and closer to returning home as someone who can uplift others.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for believing in my journey. Your kindness truly has the power to change my life.
