We are so excited to share POLO’s story with you This super handsome boy has had quite the rocky journey, but all that matters now is that Polo has the most AMAZING opportunity to make his future SO very bright.

Poor Polo initially found himself locked up at Riverside Shelter, where he luckily escaped before his euthanasia deadline. Somehow, he ended up at the Humane Society of the Desert, an outdoor shelter, where he has been stuck all year.

Take one look at Mr. Polo, and it’s totally obvious..this gentleman is one heck of a heartthrob. But HERE is a super interesting fact, that you would NOT know by looks alone; Polo is actually deaf! If you aren’t already aware, it’s a common trait in dogs with predominantly white coats.

Our rescue has never saved a dog from the Desert Shelter before, but we would *LOVE* to make Polo our first “pull”. He deserves a cozy bed, a warm home and the MUCH DESERVED opportunity to finally feel like he “belongs”.

The amazing Desert Shelter volunteers have been kind enough to provide Polo with the enrichment that they can; playing stimulating games with him, and doing ALL things ball-related (he loves his toys).

We *really* need to raise donations, and rather quickly. Once we pull Polo we have plans to immediately send him to a brilliant trainer for a specialized ‘Board and Train’ program. This will be crucial to achieve long-term success in a future home with another Pitty.

Board and Train will be beneficial for Polo in more ways than one:

While there ⬇️…

-Polo will be gently guided throughout his transition from a year at an outside shelter to a home environment.

-he will have proper time to decompress

-he will have the chance to socialize with other dogs (and possibly cats) to ensure he is as well-rounded as possible

-he will learn new hand commands that will be super beneficial for communication

After 3 weeks of Board and Train at the start of March, Polo’s trainer will help socialize him with his new foster & household. She will also follow up with in-house lessons to make sure he is on the right track.
