Hello, my name is David, and on behalf of my wife and three kids, we’d like to say thanks for reading our story.
We’re a hardworking family from Upland, CA. We live and love this city so much! We moved to this city in 2010, but between 2023-2025, unfortunately, I was laid off due to a supply chain slowdown in the car industry post-COVID. Around the same time, my wife was hit by an uninsured vehicle, and our new 3-week-old SUV rolled over and was a total loss on 4/23. Our $5k down payment was gone. Despite that, we kept pressing forward, and my part-time taco catering business was taking off. So, in 12/23, I upgraded our only car remaining to a truck to help with bigger catering events. It was a slightly used truck from a reputable dealer. By June/July 2024, that truck turned out to be a lemon with electrical and transmission issues. We took the last of our savings to rebuild the transmission in Sept 24’. The rebuild was “supposed” to have a 10k warranty, but between Sept 24’ and Feb 25’, the truck started having issues again. I’ve had to rent U-Hauls to keep the business going and get my wife to work, still thinking I had a “warranty.”
Unfortunately, this shady mechanic didn’t fully rebuild it. He left some existing parts in, and those were the same parts that are now failing. He said he can’t warranty what he didn’t replace, without disclosing his work, by the way. I’ve since reported him to the BBB and the ASE Certification board.
I’ve had to cancel months of upcoming events/catering jobs and scramble to pay bills. We are totally behind and with no working vehicles. We might be facing eviction.
We would appreciate your support to help us get the business up and running again, so we can support our family. We’re also working with a car dealership that’ll hopefully help us trade in this lemon, and we can get back to working and serving our community.
Thank you to my mother-in-law for letting us borrow her car for now to get things done. Thanks to all my wife’s awesome coworkers who have helped by giving her rides.
Thank you
