On August 14, David and Kat were involved in a serious two-vehicle crash in Idaho Falls, Idaho. David was driving the red vehicle and had to be extricated from the car using the jaws of life. Kat was his passenger and was able to be removed from the vehicle without the use of the jaws of life. Both suffered significant injuries and now face a long and difficult road to recovery.
David is currently in the ICU with a traumatic brain injury, along with other serious injuries. He will require multiple surgeries before he can even begin the long road to healing and recovery. His family knows that the journey ahead will be lengthy, challenging, and uncertain.
Kat is currently in the trauma unit recovering from her injuries. Kat works as a massage therapist for a chiropractor, but will be unable to work for at least a month to six weeks because healing will prevent bending over or putting pressure on the jaw and sinuses. Adding to these circumstances, Kat is pregnant, making this an especially frightening and uncertain time for the whole family.
David is a student who was finishing a final semester in September, and with the severity of these injuries, it is uncertain when returning to school will be possible.
Their families are also facing the challenge of being spread across different locations. David's parents are from California and Oregon, while Kat's parents are in Canada. With both of them hospitalized and facing significant recoveries, their loved ones are doing everything possible to be by their side and support them.
The financial impact of a serious accident like this can be overwhelming. Funds will help cover medical expenses, travel for family members, time away from work and school, rehabilitation, and the many unexpected costs that come with a lengthy recovery. We're asking for help to give David and Kat some financial breathing room while they focus on healing, recovery, and taking care of their growing family.
