Friends of Dave Baird know he is a kind and generous person … and not one to ask for help. Well, he needs our help now, with transportation.

Dave is a senior who raised his family and has lived on Greenfield since the 1970s, and he needs a reliable 4WD truck for his work commute to Ukiah on the steep, dirt roads from his home to Orr Springs Road. Dave has been without a reliable truck for years and any truck at all for months. Right now he relies on his bicycle to get to town and depends on rides from friends to get home.

With a reliable truck Dave can work and help others as he has done for many years. Dave devoted countless hours tending and overseeing the Plowshares Community Garden between 2012 and 2019, improving the soil and producing hundreds of pounds of produce for the Plowshares kitchen on site each year.

He has taught classes on using cover crops at Plowshares.

He donated bicycles to the Ukiah Bicycle Kitchen, a local nonprofit which in turn donates to community organizations and fire victims.

He helped fund a volunteer’s trip to Haiti to provide humanitarian aid. And he brings joy through music at Rivino and other venues in our community as the bassist in the band Easy Street.

He also adopted an adorable rescued terrier named Charlie and gives him lots of love.
