Darrin's MSA Story
Darrin is an energetic middle-aged, now 53, father of 4 and husband to Renee. He loves sports, whether playing or pretending to play, and I mean he is THE commissioner in all fantasy leagues. Darrin is a family man and a man of God. Now he is living a different life. I am going to highlight some of the things that he and his family have been through.
Darrin first got sick back in December 2020, COVID, which he really struggled to recover from. Then December 2021, COVID AGAIN! This started Darrin's decline. September 2022, Darrin could no longer work and was denied short-term disability. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, Darrin had a tracheotomy done to help him breathe at the hospital in Philly. This absolutely shocked the family. January 2024, he was finally approved for Social Security Disability.
June 7, 2024, Darrin was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). MSA is a lifetime neurological disorder. It shuts down different systems that run the human body.
This list of things is so minute compared to what has happened to this man who was so full of life and his family. I have not touched on the times that he has fallen or the fact that they can no longer count the number of infections that Darrin has had. The infections are what the family is most concerned with because they have become life threatening.
Some of the things needed right now are:
The deck fixed so that Darrin can sit outside
The bathroom to be handicap accessible
A ramp put on the front of the house so he can safely leave his house
This is a man who has worked at the Lancaster County Prison, Lancaster and York County Sheriffs, and the Youth Intervention Center. He coached kids' sports for Manheim Township when his boys were younger.
If you can, please help this family.
