Help My Grandparents Recover After Being Scammed Right Before Christmas

Hi everyone,

My name is Madison, and today I’m asking for help for two of the most selfless people I know, my grandparents Darlene and Jimmy Godsey. Earlier today, just a few weeks before Christmas, they were scammed out of nearly $2,500. This was money they simply cannot afford to lose, and it has left them heartbroken, stressed, and unsure how they’re going to cover their bills.

As soon as it happened, they went straight to the police, hoping there was something that could be done. Instead, they were told there was nothing that could be done to get the money back and that the only thing they could do was report it to the Attorney General. Hearing that was devastating.

My grandparents have spent their entire lives serving others. Both worked in the medical field, where they met, most of that time as first responders, running toward emergencies to save lives when everyone else was running away. Jimmy dedicated 18 years to the medical field, working multiple jobs at once, and only retired because he had to. He loved his work with his whole heart.

My nana, Darlene, worked 21 years in the medical field. In 2010, she was out on a call in the ambulance when she was involved in a serious accident. She suffered brain damage and had to go on disability, ending the career she loved so deeply. Even after that, she remained one of the most giving people you will ever meet. She has always given everything she has, even when she couldn’t afford to, simply because someone else needed help.

She raised four children, and even after her kids were grown, she opened her home and her heart all over again to raise me and my brother. She didn’t have to, but that’s just who she is. If you know my nana, you know she is pure kindness, generosity, and strength. She would never ask for help on her own, no matter how hard things get.

That’s why I asked her permission to make this GoFundMe. After everything she and Jimmy have given to the world, after all the lives they have helped and all the love they have shown, I am hoping that some of that love can find its way back to them now.

Right now, instead of enjoying their favourite holiday season, they are worried about how they are going to pay their bills. This scam has truly knocked them off their feet. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping them recover what they lost and get back on stable ground.
