Tacos, Ice Cream, and 15 Kids Later…
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,
I manage an apartment building with around 40 kids who’ve somehow mistaken me for their fun uncle, camp counselor, part-time Uber driver, and—most recently—the human ATM at the park.
These wonderful kids, from hardworking, low-income families, light up my days. We go to the park regularly to get them moving, laughing, and soaking up sunshine instead of screen time. But here’s the sticky part—somewhere between the swings and soccer, they catch the scent of elotes, paletas, and $5 tacos. And like moths to a flame (or kids to ice cream), they swarm.
Now, if it’s a few kids, I’m happy to treat them. No problem. But lately, it’s not a few—it’s a brigade. Picture 15 sweet, hungry faces looking up at me like I’m Santa Claus with a churro stand.
At roughly $5 a treat, that’s $75 every time we go. Which means my wallet is on a steady diet of anxiety and lint.
So here’s the pitch: If you believe kids deserve a bit of joy, if you remember what it was like to chase the ice cream truck with bare feet and hope in your heart, I invite you to chip in.
$5 buys one kid a treat.
$15 buys joy for three.
$80 gives me a break from explaining that I “forgot my wallet again.”
Your donation isn’t going to a charity with a fancy CEO. It’s going to real kids, in our real neighborhood, through one slightly overwhelmed guy just trying to do a little good without going broke.
If you’d like to help, please donate.
Thank you for keeping the joy alive—and the ice cream flowing.
With melted gratitude,
Danny
