Our family is reaching out with grateful hearts and an urgent request for support for my sister, Danielle.

Earlier this year, Danielle’s life was turned upside down when complications from COVID-19 and asthma left her in need of a lung transplant. She spent six long weeks in the hospital waiting for the gift of new lungs. Thanks to the generosity of an organ donor, Danielle received her transplant — and we are endlessly thankful for this second chance at life.

But while she was fighting for her health in the hospital, disaster struck at home. Danielle and her fiancé’s house was hit hard by the flash flooding in August. The water destroyed carpet and drywall, and when contractors began repairs, they uncovered dangerous mold even above the flood line. Danielle cannot safely return home until the cleanup and mold abatement are complete — her new lungs depend on a healthy environment.

So far, Danielle and her fiancé have had to spend nearly $11,000 out of pocket just to begin the repairs, and they are still waiting to learn what insurance will cover. On top of these costs, Danielle faces ongoing medical bills and lifelong expenses for anti-rejection medications. She also needs a whole-home air purification system to keep her new lungs protected.
