Meet Daner.

Daner is a 71-year-old man I met on the streets of Fort Lauderdale while filming one of my kindness videos, “Inviting a Homeless Person to Sleep Over My House.” From the moment we spoke, it was clear that Daner carries a level of intelligence, articulation, and life experience that’s hard to miss.

Before becoming homeless, Daner worked as a successful finance broker and built a life with the woman he loved—his wife, who sadly passed away from an aneurysm less than a year ago. Since then, he’s faced unimaginable hardship, but what stood out most to me was his character.

Despite his circumstances, Daner is incredibly polite, respectful, and determined to get back on his feet. He shared that he refuses even a sip of alcohol because he’s fully committed to rebuilding his life. Instead, he spends his time having thoughtful, intellectually driven conversations and holding onto the belief that he still has purpose and value to offer.

During the filming, Daner stayed with my girlfriend and me as a guest, and he treated us with nothing but kindness and class. Afterward, we helped him get a fresh start by purchasing a train ticket back to Atlanta, Georgia—his hometown—where he now has access to a halfway house that costs $12 per day.

But there’s something bigger we can do together.

Daner is currently struggling with severe vision issues, including a detached retina that has left him nearly blind and in constant pain. This has made it extremely difficult for him to find work and regain independence. We’ve already sent him eye drops to help ease some of the discomfort, but he urgently needs proper medical care and appointments to address the root of the problem.

Let’s come together and show Daner the power of compassion and community. Every dollar raised here will go directly toward his eye care, housing, and essential needs—giving him a real chance to heal and rebuild his life.
