Help Dana and Badger Find Safe Housing

Hi, my name is Badger, and I am the service dog of Dana Brown. She is an amazing person and old-school Queer leatherboy who is being lost in the cracks of bureaucracy.

See, our neighbor is a big bully who picks on her and sells drugs out of his apartment round the clock. We haven’t gotten a good night's rest in over 2 years. Until recently, when a friend said, “no more,” and got us a motel room for a week. He told us our apartment is testing positive for meth at levels comparable to a meth lab. This absolutely qualifies as uninhabitable. However, the problem is that most of the building residents use meth, and our neighbor is the dealer. Management is fully aware of the situation and has chosen to turn a blind eye rather than deal with the complication. We have contacted over 25 organizations and reporting services. No one can help in the short term.

We are now waiting on a new safe place to live, but the navigator at the housing projects said it could take a 2-3 months and we are just starting the applications. We live on Dana’s SSI and we can't afford to be homeless this long. With the help of a good friend, we’ve sourced a few temporary housing solutions where we can be safe until our new apartment is available. But these are going to take some money that none of us have. This is where you come in We need your help! We have done the math. It will cost about $4,500 to keep us safely housed for the next 3 months. In short-term motel rentals that meet our needs.

This insecurity is the lived reality for older leather boys whose Sirs passed in the 80’s from AIDS. Our found families were decimated by the epidemic, and now we are barely able to survive. Dana tells me stories all of the time about her Sir and leather brothers who died years ago while she holds me and cries. I realy just want the best for her. We just want to be safe, eat bacon, watch ghost stories on tv and go on walks.

With the current state of our country, even once-reliable resources are disappearing every day. We need help. We need community. We need a safe place to stay where we can get our feet back under us and get set up for success. We are lucky enough to have a kind friend who is doing what he can to help, but he is worn thin and exhausted by the bureaucracy. We have contacted over 20 agencies and applied to about 15 new housing programs so far and will follow any lead given to us for safe, supportive housing. But this is not a fast process and Dana and I need to be safe now.

We need our community to step up and help us stay off the streets. Please, please, please help us. I am a very good dog, and Dana is a very nice person, and we really just need some help. Thank you for reading this, and if you can't pitch in a few bucks in these trying times, please spread the word. Every share and like helps!
