In August 2020, my dad suffered a stroke that left him wheelchair-bound.
If you know my dad, you know what a truly great man he is — and if you don’t, let me tell you a little about him. He has always been a hardworking and devoted single father, raising my brother and me until he met his amazing wife (who we proudly call Mom) when I was 14 and my brother was 11.
Dad was an exceptionally talented glassblower, known worldwide in his field. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for us, always putting his family first. When he finally made the decision to retire and enjoy life beyond work, the stroke took that opportunity away — not just from him, but from my mom as well.
Today, she works tirelessly alongside him as his teammate and best friend, helping him navigate the daily challenges that come with his condition. Their love, perseverance, and strength are inspiring, but the physical and emotional toll they face each day is immense.
In addition to being a devoted father and friend, our dad dedicated his life to helping others. As a proud member of Rotary International, he led an extraordinary effort to build a community of homes in Ecuador for families in need. Through tireless fundraising, hands-on construction work, and ongoing support, he helped create a thriving village of 50 homes—where children once living in poverty graduated high school, earned college degrees, and began professional careers. He also organized food, clothing, healthcare, and educational sponsorships that continue to change lives. Closer to home, he volunteered for the local rescue squad, drove ambulances, and delivered meals to homebound neighbors in need. His compassion and commitment to service were the foundation of everything he did, and we hope to honor that legacy by helping him regain the mobility and dignity he so generously gave to others.
Please consider making a donation to help ease some of their burden. Funds raised will enable us to provide them with a specialized vehicle that will make transporting his wheelchair much easier, especially with the many ongoing trips to doctors, physical therapists, and specialists.
Any support — whether through donations, shares, or words of encouragement — would mean the world to our family.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering helping two people who have always given so much to others.
