My name is Crystal, and I am reaching out for help after surviving two abusive relationships—one that lasted about 10 years and another for 4-5 years. Since leaving those situations, I have been diagnosed with PTSD and Major Depression, and every day is a challenge as I work to heal and rebuild my life. The abuse left me with a back injury (lumbar sciatica) that makes it hard to stand, sit, or move around like I used to. I’ve also struggled with homelessness and, even now, I am living with my parents in an environment that is emotionally abusive and restrictive. My mother controls many aspects of my daily life, including what I eat and when I can leave the house, which has made my depression worse. I am doing my best to get better—I go to therapy, see a neurologist, and am waiting on SSDI, but the process is slow and I only receive a small amount of financial assistance each month. I no longer have a vehicle, and my driver’s license lapsed while I was in the abusive relationship, making it even harder to regain my independence. Despite all of this, I am determined to move forward and create a better life for myself. I know what it’s like to be responsible and independent, and I am working hard every day to get back to that place. I believe in God, and I am asking for help from anyone who is able. Any support—no matter how small—would be a blessing and would help me get closer to having a safe place to live, renewing my license, and moving out of this toxic environment.
