In one of Nairobi’s most under-resourced neighbourhoods, opportunities for children, teenagers, and women are extremely limited. Safe spaces where they can learn, grow, and connect simply don’t existm unless the community creates them themselves.
For years, Tony has been that driving force. Growing up in a slum area himself, he knows how hard it is to break the cycle of poverty. He opened a small sports room near his home, offering boxing and fitness training to kids, teenagers, and women. Soon, it became much more than a gym: women’s groups started meeting there, young mothers came to learn about baby nutrition, and teenagers found a safe place to spend their time.
But the small room can no longer meet the growing needs of the community. That’s why Tony bought a piece of land and began building a new community house, a larger, safer, and more versatile space for everyone. It will include:
- A library to encourage reading and learning.
- Sewing workshops where women can make items to sell and earn an income.
- Safe rooms for those who temporarily have no place to stay.
- A gym and sports area to keep young people active and focused.
- A kitchen and toilets to make it a truly functional community hub.
We now need funds to finish the building and furnish it: paint, floors, doors, books, gym equipment like mats and boxing gloves, sewing machines, tables, and chairs.
The sooner we finish, the sooner the children, teenagers, and women of this neighbourhood will have a safe place to belong, and a real chance at a better future.
Your contribution, big or small, will make a lasting difference. Let’s build this together.
