Like so many in our community & beyond, I was devastated by the school shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church last August. My heart broke for the children, families, parishioners, and staff involved.

As a designer and Realtor, creating calm, welcoming spaces, and taking care of people is at the heart of what I do, so I decided to offer my skills through a “makeover” of a space of the staff’s choosing.

Through conversations with the team, I learned there isn’t a dedicated therapy space for students, and the therapists themselves are working out of a makeshift office. After meeting with staff, we identified two key priorities: transforming an old storage room into a dedicated play therapy space, and redesigning the therapists’ workspace into a functional, multi-use office and therapy environment.

After months of planning, we’re ready to bring this project to reality. These improvements will turn underutilized & poorly functioning rooms into calm, welcoming environments where students and families can feel safe, regulated, and supported.

Through thoughtful design—comfortable seating, soft lighting, and increased privacy—we can create spaces that foster trust, allow for private grieving, reduce stigma, and promote healing. Dedicated, functional rooms will also allow therapists to work more efficiently and serve more students in both individual and small group settings. At its core, this project is about creating spaces that reflect the care, support, and compassion that every student deserves.
