Every $10 contributed to this initiative means an additional hour of employment for an unhoused citizen of San Jose and an additional hour of high quality labor to support our urban environment.
Despite living in encampments and shelters, many of our unhoused neighbors in San Jose spend their mornings picking up garbage and feeding birds, all while struggling to find their next meal. Sadly, unemployment and lack of medical support take hundreds of these lives each year. The streets of San Jose are now struggling with an unprecedented level of layoffs and foreclosures, so we must act now to support our fellow citizens.
The Houseless Environmental Volunteers Initiative engages diligent individuals to work in meaningful jobs at environmental nonprofits, supporting them financially while also benefitting the Earth. We have already provided 50 hours of employment via stipends to unhoused volunteers at a local tree nursery, but we are forced to turn down eager volunteers due to our funding limits.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly towards providing the unhoused people of San Jose with reliable sources of income, so they can save their own lives while also saving the planet.
