Help COVID 19 Victims of Domestic Violence

Donation protected
My home has a fire place that keeps my feet warm in winter. I can smell the sea from my bedroom. I can sense the tide creeping toward me and receding again into milky, moonlit stillness. In my home, I am safe... The last few weeks have been a time of pausing, listening, feeling and reflecting. Like what seems a large majority of youth, I have lost my job, however I am lucky enough to have an amazing support network of friends and family who I know I can count on for love, nurturing and continuous support. I know for myself at least that in the end, everything is going to be okay. However not everyone has this privilege. Enforced isolation for many less fortunate than myself will mean victims of domestic violence will be sentenced to weeks behind closed doors with their abusers.

On average in Australia, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner. Indigenous women are 32x more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence than non-indigenous women and intimate partner violence contributes to more death, disability and illness in women aged 15 to 44 than any other preventable risk factor (White Ribbon Australia 2020). Women and children of domestic violence households are going to become far more vulnerable during these challenging and uncertain times, putting ever increasing pressure on the organisations who support them.

In light of this, I will be shaving my head in 2 months to raise money for South West Refuge Inc (Bunbury) and Zonta House (Perth), two amazing not for profits who provide temporary/ crisis accommodation for women and children victims of domestic violence. I am accepting financial donations as well as material contributions (please contact me for more information as to what you can and cannot donate). If you would like to have your donations be received by one charity over another let me know.

No one is sure how long this situation is going to last so I encourage you to reach out in any way possible. Check on your neighbours. Donate to those less fortunate. Spread love and have faith.

Namaste!
