I am writing this from recovery after undergoing my third surgery this week.

What started as a kidney stone diagnosis has turned into an 8-month medical and financial nightmare. As of this morning, $6,595.30 of my medical bills have been sent to collections (see photo below), and because it is a new year, my insurance deductible has reset—meaning the bills for this week's emergency surgery are piling up on top of the old debt.

How We Got Here

In May 2025, I was rushed to the ER with kidney stones. What should have been a routine recovery turned into a battle with severe infections, hospitalization, and complications that required multiple procedures.

I returned to work and tried to push through the pain to pay the bills, but the situation became unbearable. Doctors discovered the stones were a side effect of a medication (Topiramate) I was taking for migraines.

My goal is to recover and get back to being the healthy partner and parent my family needs.

The Financial Crisis

This week, I was admitted for my third surgery to remove the remaining stones. While I am fighting to recover physically, the financial stress is crushing my family.

• $6,595.30 has just been sent to a debt collector.

• My insurance deductible reset on Jan 1st, meaning I am paying out-of-pocket again for this current hospital stay.

• I am currently unable to work while I heal.
