Help Cover Costs For Baby Emily's Brain Surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Jacinta Langlois and I'm starting a GoFundMe to help raise some money for my brother and sister-in-law Jordan and Nicole MacPherson. They welcomed an absolutely beautiful and perfect baby girl this past April, Emily Patricia Carol MacPherson. A couple months ago Nicole started noticing that baby Emily's head size seemed to be a little bit off... so the doctor referred her to get an MRI of the brain just in case. Scans of her head showed fluid around the brain, also know as hydrocephalus. Cerebrospinal fluid is constantly produced and drained from the brain. Emily's condition causes a build-up of fluid around the brain, leading to increased pressure and swelling of the head. If conditions like this are not dealt with promptly, it can lead to developmental deficits and other serious conditions.

They spent a full day in the ER in Windsor a couple weeks ago and as soon as they got some more scans of the brain, the doctor decided that she either needs to be air-lifted to London hospital or transported via ambulance for emergency brain surgery. The plan was to have the surgery right away; however, Emily developed a respiratory infection and they will not put her under anesthesia and operate until her infection and breathing has fully cleared... this could be weeks or months. In the meantime, the fluid has continued to build-up daily and the only way to relieve the pressure is to drain the fluid through a very thin needle/syringe that is inserted into her skull. This has been done multiple times and the fluid build-up has caused baby Emily to vomit several days the past few weeks. Now it is all just a waiting game to be cleared for surgery. Surgery is very invasive, especially for a 6.5 month old baby. The procedure involves a ventricular shunt being placed into the ventricle in her brain, allowing the cerebrospinal fluid to properly drain out of her brain and into a tube down into her stomach, thereby relieving pressure from her brain and preventing swelling. This device will be permanent and will likely need to be changed again once she grows.

Jordan and Nicole are quiet, humble, hard-working people that would never ask for help, but I feel as though they could truly use some financial help as Nicole is in London at the hospital full-time with Emily, and Jordan drives back and forth to London to see Nicole and Emily while also taking care of his other two daughters (Kate and Lauren) at home in Essex. Please send up your prayers for this precious angel and any donation would be more than enough. Thank you everyone for helping my family.

Love always, Jacinta Langlois.
