In early June, Chase and Jacob matched with birth parents and began what they hoped would be the beginning of their parenthood journey. Over the course of the last 10 days, they lived out of a hotel near the NICU in Youngstown, caring for newborn twin boys. They watched the twins fight through their early days — from intensive care to open cribs, and eventually to bottle feeding — forming deep bonds and preparing to bring them home.

But in a heartbreaking turn of events, just as legal proceedings were set to finalize the adoption, the birth parents made the difficult decision to take back custody. Chase and Jacob returned home empty-handed, grieving not just the loss of the twins they cared for, but the dreams and hopes that came with them.

This loss has been emotionally devastating and financially burdensome. The adoption process cost them over $10,000 — funds that are not recoverable and that they will be expected to pay again if they pursue another match. Despite their grief, they remain committed to building their family and becoming the incredible parents they know they are meant to be.
