Unfortunately Brittany was the victim of our healthcare system’s rushing of the birthing process and the cascade of intervention. Brittany had a perfectly normal and healthy pregnancy but was told to head to labor and delivery after a high blood pressure reading at her 39 week OB appointment. When she got to the hospital they started inducing her and things were going normally! After pushing for one hour the midwife decided a c-section would be best. However, there was absolutely no medical need for a c-section. Brittany and the baby were doing great, it was just taking longer than the doctor would like. Of course being a first time mom you assume the doctors have your best intentions. Even though the c-section was not a medical emergency they began the procedure without having Brittany’s blood type on hand (this happened during Covid when there was a blood shortage). During the procedure Brittany started to decline when her uterus would not contract following delivery. Unfortunately as they waited for the blood she started declining rapidly and her physician performed a partial hysterectomy and removed Brittany’s uterus, robbing Brittany of the chance to carry another child of her own. The hospital by the military base her husband was stationed at did not have intervention radiology which could have drastically provided another outcome.
Brittany has met with many lawyers who agree there was clear and gross negligence (not to mention other lawsuits against the physician leading to fetal death). However no lawyers would take her specific case because her and the baby both survived the procedure and the time has exhausted to bring forth charges.
Fast forward a few years and they are wanting to give their sweet boy a sibling. However now they are faced with the costs of not only IVF but also finding a gestational carrier. I would love nothing more than to help with the financial burden that they are facing at this time which is estimated to be at least $150,000-$200,000. If you can’t donate, I would greatly appreciate people sharing their story so that people make a more informed decision for delivery at a hospital that can handle any situation! They are currently searching for a surrogate and would love to connect if that is something you’ve so selflessly considered.
