This is my brother Corey Phillips. If you’ve heard his name it is because he has made national news when the AKRON POLICE body cam footage was released of him being almost fatally shot outside a bar in Akron. Corey was accused of having a gun which he did not have. If you have seen the body cam footage I am so sorry and if you haven’t, I urge you to watch with caution. It is very heartbreaking to watch as it lasted all of 30 seconds before my brother was almost killed. I am very very thankful that he is alive and so are his six children. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Medical bills are already piling up from all the surgeries, not to mention the physical therapy that he hasn’t even started yet. Corey was shot 8 times. He has had extensive surgery on his liver, intestines and arms. His elbow was completely destroyed, he has no feeling in both of his hands due to severe nerve damage. Corey will need constant care, due to limited mobility in his arms. He is not gonna be able to provide for himself or his children for a very long time. I am asking for help in anyway you can offer it, whether it’s a prayer or a donation. We are trying to figure out how to navigate this as we have a long battle of recovery ahead of us and a long battle to get justice for my brother. Corey is an electrician and I don’t believe he will ever be able to return to the profession he loved so much . He has been through so much trauma, his children have been through so much trauma, but Overall we are just so blessed he is still here with us.
