Today, I met Coretta in the parking lot near Planet Fitness Gym in Commerce, MI. I noticed a car running to keep someone warm and learned from others that a woman was living inside. I felt a strong calling to help, so I introduced myself and met Coretta. She is 37 years old, has special needs, and was born with only half a brain. She also has asthma and relies on a walker due to a car accident five years ago that left her with chronic back pain.
Coretta lived with her stepmother until her stepmother passed away. Before she died, her stepmother helped her buy a car, which has now become Coretta’s only shelter. She has been homeless for three years, living in her car and doing her best to get by. Coretta receives some assistance with food stamps and is waiting for more help from the state, but so far, she hasn’t received the support she needs. She has reached out to charities, but none have been able to help. Recently, she slipped on ice and severely sprained her foot, so she now wears a walking boot. Despite all of this, Coretta attends church every Sunday and still holds onto hope.
We are raising money to help Coretta find a warm place to live for a year and to help pay her bills. Your generosity and kindness can give her the stability and comfort she deserves. Thank you for caring and for helping us bring hope to Coretta’s life.
HOPE - Help One Person Everyday. Together, we can make a difference for Coretta.
Thank You Kim and Dave Wisniewski
