Hello, my name is Monica and this is for my brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Cory.
They have been living aboard their 45-foot sailboat and voyaging across the world. Two days ago (March 27) they were boarded by four men with guns and machetes who broke into their boat, attacking them, and ransacked their belongings. Their 6 month old puppy, Stella, is missing.
They were anchored at Isla La Mina, and this happened just after dark, around 7:30pm. There were 4 people on board (Chris, Cory, and their two best friends), all young, healthy, and strong. The attackers were on board for an hour and a half. Chris suffered some injuries, but they are ok. They made it back to the marina, but only have what they were wearing during the robbery. Everything, literally everything, was taken.
In regards to their puppy, Stella: If you have connections with animal rescue groups in Panama, please pass along this information. She is 25-30 pounds, she is small/medium sized and is shorter than knee height. Her expressive ears lay back flat when she is nervous. She is microchipped but was not wearing a collar or tag at the time. She has a small, strange dew claw on just one of her back legs which could be helpful for identification. She is friendly but may or may not come when called. She may be on the island near Isla La Mina (in Las Perlas, Panama) if she fell in and managed to swim to shore. One of their devices was tracked to Contadora an hour after the event, so if she was taken, she may be there.
They have a long road ahead of them. They are currently working on getting supplies and boat work done, but if you would like to support them from afar, money would really help.
Thank you.
