My name is Connor, and I am reaching out during one of the most shocking and challenging times of my life. My mother has dementia and can no longer advocate for herself. This is a complicated and messy situation that requires an exceptional level of attention and due diligence. Living over 1000 miles away, it has been difficult to learn more about what happened to her and stay as involved as she would have wanted. The distance and the complexity of her situation have made things incredibly discouraging and my search for answers has left me with nothing but more questions. The circumstances surrounding her situation are mysterious and complicated, and now instead of helping me to make sense of all this, a lawyer has been hired to keep me from asking the hard questions. Unfortunately, I cannot share all the details due to legal reasons, but my goal is simple: to do right by my mother and ensure she receives the due diligence, management, and protection she deserves. On top of everything else, I am her only child, I am neurodivergent, and I am facing great adversity from others involved, which has made this heartbreaking journey even more challenging.

This whole experience has just been ugly, awful, and very stressful. It is a difficult reality to engage with, and the process, costs, and possibilities are overwhelming. Extensive legal fees, travel costs of going between states, as well as working with the professionals who understand the complexity of her situation are all necessary steps that will require time and money. This means taking time away from my regular duties, which will add to our financial strain. In addition to legal and travel expenses, I will likely need help covering bills, childcare, and other daily living costs while I focus on learning more, try to improve my mother's situation, and her quality of life during this difficult time.
